One Earth Concert Postponed
- 10/01/2006
from bbc.co.uk The Super Furry Animals, The Darkness and The Strokes were due to take part An environmental awareness concert due to take place at the Millennium Stadium later this month has been postponed. The One Earth Concert was due to take place in Cardiff on 28 January featuring Manic Street Preachers, The Darkness, The Strokes and other acts. Organisers Climate Change Now said the event would take place later in the year at the same venue but did not say why it had been postponed. Those who have already brought tickets for the concert can claim refunds. The event was to have been televised worldwide as part of a global campaign by environmental organisation Climate Change Now. All profits from the concert were to have been donated to the UK charity One Earth Trust. Other bands confirmed in the line-up had included Super Furry Animals, with Embrace and Elbow added to the bill only on Monday. Organisers of the event said they were trying to negotiate a new date to accommodate bands who had already pledged their support and to attract bands who were unable to perform on the original date. Michael Mathres, of Climate Change Now, said: "We apologise wholeheartedly for any inconvenience caused by the change of date. "But we can assure those who have already purchased tickets that the event will still take place at the Millennium Stadium." Only on Monday night, organisers urged fans to book early for the £40 tickets. Millennium Stadium chief executive Paul Sergeant added: "Whilst we acknowledge it is disappointing for those who have already bought tickets, if the event can be made bigger and better and attract more of the highest profile names in the music industry then it is the correct decision to make. "Music lovers are assured the event will still take place at the Millennium Stadium and we're working with the event organisers to find a suitable date later in the year."
