THE SUPER FURRIES LIVE ON S4C FROM THE SESIWN FAWR - 08/07/2005

The Super Furry Animals' headline gig at the Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau music festival on Friday, 15 July is to be broadcast live and exclusive on S4C.

The SFA on S4C from the Sesiwn Fawr is one of the highlights of two nights of live broadcasting from a festival that provides an intriguing rainbow line-up of rock, reggae, world and folk music.

This is the first time for S4C to televise a live performance of the international progressive, psychedelic rock band. It will be shown simultaneously on S4C and S4C digidol, which means that fans in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland can see the SFA on channel 151 on Sky.

The Super Furry Animals, formed in the mid 1990s, are one of Wales' biggest bands and are famed for their rich, eclectic musicality and high-energy live performances.

Their Friday night gig at Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau follows last year's appearance by Cerys Matthews and her country band from Tennessee, USA. The SFA gig is organised by the festival in partnership with the Pop Factory, the Rhondda-based studio and concert organisers whose sister company, Teledu Avanti is responsible for S4C's coverage.

Ceri Sherlock, S4C's Commissioning Editor, Music, says, "I'm really pleased that the Super Furries are performing during S4C's coverage of the Sesiwn Fawr. They are one of Wales' most exciting bands - musically, artistically and culturally and having them as part of the line up is very important to us and our coverage. I'm looking forward to joining the thousands of fans who will be watching them live in Dolgellau and on S4C."

Live broadcasting is scheduled for Saturday night too when viewers can enjoy a 'reggae party'. The night will feature Welsh band Estynedig, an intriguing combination of Anweledig, Estella and Vates, and Nasio Fontaine, the reggae artist from the Caribbean island of Dominica, hailed the 'new Bob Marley' by many.

Both the Friday and Saturday night programes will feature highlights from the rest of the Sesiwn Fawr. The appearance of new folk sensation Karine Polwart and folk band Mozaik, featuring former members of the fabled Irish folk band, Planxty, will be among the highlights.

The Sesiwn Fawr also features the best from the Welsh music scene with performances by Elin Fflur, The Poppies, Frizbee, Drymbago, Alun Tan Lan and Huw Chiswell.
